On ITV2's live Xtra Factor show on Saturday 9th October, Simon Cowell was presented with a deed poll document to change his name to Lightning Cowell.  Simon agreed to be known as Lightning Cowell for 24 hours and duly signed his deed poll, which was witnessed by Cheryl Cole.

We sent Simon's deed poll documentation to Cheryl following Simon's refusal, at Storm Lee's audition, to call Storm by his legal name, which he changed by deed poll when he was younger.  Simon didn't think Storm was his real name because it wasn't his birth name.  So Cheryl thought she would make the point by presenting Simon with his own deed poll changing his name to Lightning Cowell.

So, for 24 hours, Simon committed himself to be known as Lightning Cowell by signing his deed poll in front of the X Factor judges.

Many entertainers have changed their name by deed poll, including Elton John (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight); Cliff Richard (born Harry Rodger Webb); Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Balsara) and John Winston Ono Lennon (born John Winston Lennon).  Storm Lee and Lightning Cowell are in good company!
